New Jersey Nets point guard Jason Kidd has a strained left knee but he said that he would still play against the Toronto Raptors.
Kidd hurt his knee in the opening minutes of Game 2 while trying to take a charge against Raptors forward Chris Bosh.
Just hours before Game 3, Kidd said that he had a bump on the knee which was examined by the doctors the previous day and everything was fine. He further added that he would be ready to play in Game 3.
Kidd was seen by an orthopedic doctor who performed a manual examination on his knee and proclaimed that it was not serious.
Kidd underwent physical therapy at the Nets’ practice facility and then took part in a shootout. He said that he would be in full speed in Game 3, and the swelling in the knee had subsided. He further added that he felt that he could do anything on court but would wait till the evening before the game to see how things were.
Lawrence Frank, Nets coach, has formally announced that Kidd would be a gametime decision and if there was a possibility for him to play, he would ensure that Kidd plays.
If Kidd does not play, the Frank said that he would get rookie Marcus Williams to start or he had the option of moving shooting guard Vince Carter into Kidd’s position.
Kidd insisted that his current injury was not at all similar to the one he sustained in 2004 and for which he required a surgery. He said that it was just a bruise and it was something players just cast aside and do everything to help there team because it was the playoffs. Kidd doubts whether the bruise will have any effect on him or his performance in the game.
