Larry Hughes was the 10th overall selection in the NBA held recently. He decided to apply for the pro ranks before getting the chance to finish his collegiate career because of his brother’s heart problems. His brother, Justin had been born with heart problems and has been a financial burden on the family. It was said by people afterward, that Justin gave Larry, the will power he needed to succeed. His love for his brother and his family made him try that much harder to reach his goals, goals that were shared by those around him.
Larry Hughes was a fine basketball player, he has a knack for defense and can explode offensively if he gets hot. As his career unfolded, Larry Hughes went to various organizations such as Golden State, Philadelphia and Washington. In his latter years in Philly and the capital, he became to develop as a star in the league. For this reason, he caught the attention of NBA small forward Lebron James. Lebron felt that Larry would be a nice addition to the team because of his slashing ability and his defense. Larry had averaged about 22 points, was part of the all NBA defensive team and was the leader in steals. They eventually signed him to a lucrative deal in hopes of creating a contending team.
With a young and bustling player in Larry Hughes, it looked like the Cavs would be a dangerous team. However, this is not the case. Larry Hughes suffered several key injuries which forced him to go under the knife. The time lost would eventually disrupt the team chemistry of the Cavs in their series against Detroit, which they lost in 7 games. Now, it appears as if Larry Hughes still has not met his potential. He appears to have trouble shooting well and his defense is suspect. However, he has great character and will suit up for the Cavs in their title hopes for 2008.
