I was talking to a client a couple days ago helping her projecting her future goals. As I finished the phone coaching session she asked me if I’d be interested in doing a bungee jump in October in Swansea. I paused….."a bungee jump".....I repeated. I remained calm although my heart rate began to gradually increase at the thought of springing and pining around like a demented Yo-Yo, somewhere up in the welsh mountains!!! Before I had time to reply she said……..oh sorry Steve I forgot it’s been canceled this year as there was a problem last year!!! She then said “I know you would have done it if it wasn’t canceled” As I put the phone down I thought about whether I would have done the bungee jump.
Are you being labeled?
How many times have you heard people telling you things like “I know you’d be a great singer, or you’re such a good listener, you should be a counselor or alternatively your rubbish at that you should stop doing it or you’re a loser, and you are good for nothing”
Remember, these are only the opinions of other people, but how does this affect us.
Do you have label?
Most people get influenced by the labels that people put on us. They repeat it so much that we get to the point where we actually believe it. Then we go after that label we’ve been given and we end up discovering that we weren’t as good as we were being told.……………Do you remember some of the wannabes on the X-factor!!!!Some of us go through life waiting for other people to decide what should we do, and we look to be labelled. Many of us feel safe in our comfort zone when we are told what is good and what is bad for us.
Here is my challenge to you........look to see if you’re labelled this week,
If your not sure ask yourself this…..
Are you conforming to their label or yours?
